TOURISM CONSULTING
WHY DO WE DO THIS?
We believe that tourism is a tool for human development, which allows to generate wealth while safeguarding the natural and cultural heritage of a people.
Hola,
My name is Marcos Pitti. I was born and raised in San José, Costa Rica. I studied a bachelor's degree in advertising at Universidad Latina de Costa Rica, but in order to pay for my university studies I worked for several years in call centers, both in customer service and technical support. In both cases I learned valuable lessons about customer service as well as the analytical process to find the source of a problem.
Later I worked at avVenta (today Accenture) a multinational web development company where I started as a quality analyst and after one year I was promoted to team lead. I learned a lot about managing staff and managing multiple projects simultaneously at different stages as well as delivery dates and/or releases.
I left that company when it opened Craic Irish Pubwith two business partners, a bar that I owned for ten years, but what's relevant is that thanks to the pub I was able to travel around Europe for two months. During that trip I was impressed by the urban tourism in each of the European capitals, so upon returning to Costa Rica I began Carpe Chepe, the first tour operator in the country specialized in urban tourism.
Although Costa Rica is very popular with tourists, the capital is often seen as a necessary evil that must be passed through before visiting the natural wonders that the country offers. Being a native of San José, I thought I could contribute to making the capital a better place through sustainable tourism, so I devoted all my time and effort for seven years to position my city as a tourist destination, instead of just a stepping stone. We develop different cultural experiences such as historical, gastronomic, craft beer and party tours. We even had a party bus at some point. It was not an easy task, but with a lot of passion and effort we managed to change the image that more than 17,000 tourists had of San José and we made them fall in love with "Chepe", as we locals affectionately call the city.
Our work allowed that the Costarican Institute of Tourism (our tourism board) entrusted us with the visit of numerous media outlets, travel bloggers and guest celebrities as part of the country's Public Relations efforts. This is how we managed to be featured in NatGeo Travel and CondeNast Travel, among many others.
It was this venture that made me discover my passion for tourism, which is why I became certified as a General Guide first and later as a Specialized Guide in Naturalism, which allowed me to work as a "freelance" for other agencies doing tours around the country and learning about of the successes and difficulties of larger and more established agencies. While I was taking the courses to become a certified guide, and with the objective of gaining experience in the Tour & Travel tourism marketing sector, I worked in Profimercadeo representing the exclusive collection of luxury boutique hotels Enchanting Hotels.
Unfortunately, with the pandemic we made the decision to close Carpe Chepe. My partner and I decided to sell all our furniture and leave the capital with what we could fit in the car. We've been nomads for four years now and we work remotely or on site at each place we visit. During this experience I have had the opportunity to put my knowledge and experience at the service of other tourism businesses to improve their processes and practices to help them grow..
THAT'S HOW THE CONSULTOUR CONSULTATION SERVICE IS BORN
as a desire to help other tourism entrepreneurs create or grow profitable and sustainable businesses.
Vision:
To be agents of change in communities so that more people can earn a living doing sustainable tourism.
MISSION:
To help entrepreneurs and tourism SMEs create profitable businesses that improve their living conditions and help them live more fulfilling lives.
Why choose The Consultour?
I have many years of experience in the tourism industry in different roles such as hotel reception, marketing, operations, guiding as well as project management and process optimization. But most of all: I know how difficult it is to have your own business and I want to share everything I have learned with other passionate entrepreneurs who dream of having profitable businesses and a better work/life balance.
Experience
After many years in the industry, we have created and helped create many tourist experiences. We have optimized operating costs and improved profit margins, we have created complete manuals for organizational roles. But none of that replaces the need for a strategy. Seneca said that "there is no favorable wind for him who does not know where he is going."
Dreams with a structure
When I decided to start a business in tourism, I did it because I wanted to contribute to my community by doing something that I was passionate about.
In general, tourism entrepreneurs have a lot of passion and desire to do things, we are visionaries and dreamers; but sometimes we need a guide so our dreams can grow.
Nuestra asesoría turística puede ayudarle a encontrar ese balance entre su pasión y un negocio que le traiga prosperidad a su familia y comunidad.
