My name is Marcos Pitti<\/a>. I was born and raised in San Jos\u00e9, Costa Rica. I studied a bachelor's degree in advertising at Universidad Latina de Costa Rica<\/a>, but in order to pay for my university studies I worked for several years in call centers, both in customer service and technical support. In both cases I learned valuable lessons about customer service as well as the analytical process to find the source of a problem.

Later I worked at avVenta (today Accenture<\/a>) a multinational web development company where I started as a quality analyst and after one year I was promoted to team lead. I learned a lot about managing staff and managing multiple projects simultaneously at different stages as well as delivery dates and\/or releases.\u00a0

I left that company when it opened Craic Irish Pub<\/a>with two business partners, a bar that I owned for ten years, but what's relevant is that thanks to the pub I was able to travel around Europe for two months. During that trip I was impressed by the urban tourism in each of the European capitals, so upon returning to Costa Rica I began Carpe Chepe<\/a>, the first tour operator in the country specialized in urban tourism.\u00a0

A pesar de que Costa Rica es muy popular entre turistas, la capital suele ser vista como un mal necesario por el que hay que pasar antes de visitar las maravillas naturales que ofrece el pa\u00eds. Siendo oriundo de San Jos\u00e9, pens\u00e9 que pod\u00eda aportar a hacer de la capital un lugar mejor a trav\u00e9s del turismo sostenible, as\u00ed que dediqu\u00e9 todo mi tiempo y esfuerzo durante siete a\u00f1os en posicionar mi ciudad como un destino tur\u00edstico, en vez de un sitio de paso. Desarrollamos distintas experiencias culturales como tours hist\u00f3ricos, gastron\u00f3micos, de cerveza artesanal y tambi\u00e9n de fiesta. Hasta un bus de fiesta tuvimos en alg\u00fan momento. No fue una tarea f\u00e1cil, pero con mucha pasi\u00f3n y esfuerzo logramos cambiar la imagen que m\u00e1s de 17.000 turistas ten\u00edan de San Jos\u00e9 y logramos que se enamoraran de “Chepe”, como le decimos los lugare\u00f1os de cari\u00f1o.\u00a0

Our work allowed that the Costarican Institute of Tourism (our tourism board)<\/a> entrusted us with the visit of numerous media outlets, travel bloggers and guest celebrities as part of the country's Public Relations efforts. This is how we managed to be featured in NatGeo Travel<\/a> and CondeNast Travel<\/a>, among many others.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Fue este emprendimiento el que me hizo descubrir mi pasi\u00f3n en el turismo por lo que me certifiqu\u00e9 como Gu\u00eda General primero y posteriormente como Gu\u00eda Especializado en Naturalismo, lo cual me permiti\u00f3 trabajar como “freelance” para otras agencias haciendo giras alrededor del pa\u00eds y aprender acerca de los aciertos y dificultades de agencias m\u00e1s grandes y establecidas. Mientras cursaba los cursos para certificarme como gu\u00eda, y con el objetivo de ganar experiencia en la rama de mercadeo tur\u00edstico Tour & Travel, trabaj\u00e9 en Profimercadeo<\/a> representing the exclusive collection of luxury boutique hotels Enchanting Hotels<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately, with the pandemic we made the decision to close Carpe Chepe. My partner and I decided to sell all our furniture and leave the capital with what we could fit in the car. We've been nomads for four years now<\/a> and we work remotely or on site at each place we visit. During this experience I have had the opportunity to put my knowledge and experience at the service of other tourism businesses to improve their processes and practices to help them grow.<\/a>.
